Greetings, I've tried to find your book "Crime and Punishment...." on Audible, with no success. Likewise, no success on the internet. I'm interested in this topic in particular. That being said, I have long wondered about how, at all, did the designations IE "Poor, Poverty line" come to fruition. I grew up in the 50's and 60's, came of age in the 70's. In the 90's I left my comfort zone career, and "took my chances" in the world. I've been fortunate enough to travel to places both within the USA, Mesoamerica and as far away as Eastern Europe, and break bread with peoples, that most social systems regard as "poor". I understand, I think, what you are saying with regard to trying to break out of the poverty line. I've done that myself. Something I've noticed about so-called poor people in other countries, at least the ones I've traveled to, that bears consideration. I recently returned from an extended stay in a small pueblo in southern Mexico. The idea of poverty like we know it in the US is not prevalent. This got me to wondering. I didn't realize I had grown up "poor". Navigating the economic system in the 70's through the 90's was not easy. I didn't have a piece of property to call my own etc and so on. The family that I lived with in Mexico seem far more relaxed and content with their lot in life than in the US.
